Conversions Between Celsius and Kelvin
Making an equation to convert Celsius degrees to kelvin or Kelvin to Celsius degrees, is a pretty simple process.
  • These two scales use the same sized units to measure temperature.
    • In each scale there are 100 units from water's freezing point to its boiling point.
  • There is a simple difference of 273 between the Kelvin temperature and the Celsius temperature.
    • 273 must be added to °C to get K or subtracted from K to get °C.
To calculate Kelvin when you know Celsius, add 273.
  • K = °C + 273

To calculate Celsius when you know Kelvin, subtract 273.

  • °C = K – 273
