The Human Digestive System
Digestion is the process of breaking down foods to get the nutrients we need for our bodies to function properly. It involves physical and chemical changes in food.

Digestion begins in the mouth where food is chewed and begins to be physically and chemically broken down.

Then the food travels down the esophagus to the stomach.

The digested food then goes to the small intestine where the digestion process is completed and nutrients are absorbed* into the blood.
