Neurons
Neurons are nerve cells. They are very speciallized. They are able to pass electrical* impulses from one to another. These electrical impulses contain messages. There are three main types of neurons.
  • Sensory neurons* are located in the sensory organs and receive information that is sent to the brain for processing.
  • Motor neurons* send messages from the brain to muscles and glands.
  • Interneurons transfer and interpret* messages sent from the sensory neurons to the motor neurons.
The neurons of the nervous system work with every other system in the body to control its functions so that the body is healthy and balanced.
