Science: Out of This World is designed for middle school students (grades 5-8) and uses the study of space and technology to motivate students to learn basic scientific methods and principles, as well as general study skills. This exciting program is available in three formats:

1.) an award-winning, highly structured, full-year video course in which teachers receive free workbooks, videos, and lab supplies;

2.) a subject specific format in which all SOOTW lessons are grouped by subject and organized by Grade Level Expectation so that teachers may pick and choose video content according to their needs in the classroom;

3.) and as an extensive web-site that supplements existing science courses by providing over a thousand content pages that teachers can organize into guided visits for their students.

Science: Out of This World In the Classroom, Full Course

SOOTW In the Classroom, Full Course is a middle school science program created to motivate students through the study of space and technology. Students learn basic scientific methods and principles, as well as general study skills such as writing and note-taking. Students also develop social and team-building skills by conducting hands-on investigations in cooperative groups.

Participating teachers receive the following:

1.) 96 lessons on 32 video tapes* (limited to one set per school)
a.) Lessons for 3 days per week, including a short activity each day
b.) Topics that integrate physics, chemistry, astronomy, earth science, biology, and mathematics

2.) Teacher books
a.) Instructions for making most lab materials from recyclables
b.) Teacher workbooks with answers to notes and activity questions
c.) Keys to all quizzes and tests
d.) Teacher guide with daily objectives and tips for classroom management

3.) Up to 50 sets of student books

Science: Out of This World In the Classroom, Subject Specific Format

The "Science: Out of this World, Subject Specific Format" is a DVD designed to allow teachers to easily incorporate lessons from our origional video course into individual lesson plans. Instead of a full, structured course, this DVD has all of the lessons organized by subject and mapped to specific GLE's.

Science: Out of This World Online

SOOTW Online is designed to supplement middle school science courses with over 1300 pages of science content, 170 lab activities, streaming audio and video clips, and links to space
and science resourses.

Advantages of using Science: Out of This World Online include
1.) non-linear structure (students may jump from place to place);
2.) flexibility – you can determine which topics to cover, and in which order to cover them;
3.) thematic design – content from many science disciplines are integrated into space related themes;
4.) real-life applications of science and technology.

1.) streaming audio and video clips;
2.) optional custom designed lessons (students access can be directed to pages that are pre-selected by the teacher);
3.) links to other web pages which supplement the lessons;
4.) over 170 lab activities – (most using common lab supplies and household products).
