Science: Out of This World Textbook and Video Course

Science: Out of This World is the Space Science Group's award winning program designed for middle school students (grades 5-8) that uses the study of space and technology to motivate students to learn basic scientific methods and principles, as well as general study skills. This exciting program is available as both a highly structured, full-year video course and as an extensive web-site that supplements existing science courses. Both formats (video and internet) provide hands-on activities for students to complete in cooperative groups. Both relate science to real life and motivate students to want to learn. Both help build general academic skills, preparing students for future educational endeavors. However, the two formats of Science: Out of This World are not just different delivery methods. They serve to fill varying needs of schools in a variety of circumstances.

The course is structured to meet the following goals:

• To motivate students to take more mathematics and science courses in high school and college.
• To motivate students to take more difficult mathematics and science courses in high school and college.
• To motivate students to have a positive attitude toward mathematics and science.
• To improve the problem solving and teamwork skills of students.
• To teach general academic skills such as note-taking, writing, and graphing.

Science: Out of this World received the Gold Medal award in the New York Festival for International Nonbroadcast Media in the science education category.
